First week of June

June at Mjölk

It’s the first week of June at the shop and the city feels so vibrant. Quite a lot has been happening this past week: First of all, we were sad to say our farewells to one of our favourite restaurants: Honest Weight. We’ve been long time frequenters there and even had our interview with Freude von Freuden there way back in 2015. You can take a look at the article here. We had our last meal there on Friday and we’ll be really missing their okonomiyaki — a savoury cabbage pancake dish with various types of seafood. We’re wishing all the staff the best for the future.

In other news, I had my show at 915 Dupont on Sunday night. Thank you all to everyone who came out! It was a beautiful night, and it was really wonderful to reconnect with you.

Now back to the shop…

We’ve opened up the entry to the store to have a new composition inspired by all the sunshine we are getting. It kind of has a desert feel between the earthenware clay, honey coloured cypress stump and wood horse. The Tulipa planters are by Swedish architect firm Claesson Koivisto Rune for Origin Made and the carved horse is an antique from Japan.

We recently learned that a few brass works by Oji Masanori were discontinued. We thought it would be a good idea to buy out the remaining stock and have them available for anyone who might need them. We have a good amount of small “s” hooks and bean shaped hooks (both sold as sets of 2). We also have a perfect brass catch-all which is a great place to stash keys, or as you’ll see below a nice tray for hand soap.

Back in Stock: ang vase

We have received a new shipment of ang vases from Sweden including the

rectangle version made from oxidized solid brass with a verdigris finish.

This size is great as a table centrepiece or in a window.  

New furniture debut for 3 Days of Design, Copenhagen

We’re always so excited to see the Finn Juhl workshop bring back pieces from the past.

Especially ones with such intricate details that were originally designed for very specific purposes. When we talk about heirloom quality, this is the kind of work we have in mind: Fine cabinetry that is so intricately crafted, yet has a very practical scale and continues to feel contemporary despite being a design from 1949.

The relaunch is brand new, so I don’t have one on display in our showroom but I’m always looking for more excuses to bring in Finn Juhl floor models so don’t count it out.

New additions to our sale section

We have updated our sale section to include these incredible wood fired vases by Yoji Yamada. We ordered quite a large quantity of these vessels for our exhibition and they really create a wonderful impact here. This is a rare chance to order a collection of work for a special grouping. These would be perfect in a row on a mantle or given their narrow size beautiful on a nightstand or in the powder room.

Shokkan exhibition at the ROM

The ROM has a brilliant new show on called “Shokkan” which exhibits some wonderful artifacts from Japan. They knew we would be interested in the show and reached out to us as they thought our clients might be interested in viewing it as well.
