Doverail Mirror and Shelf

I’ve mentioned this in previous emails, but one of our goals this year is to bring back as many Mjölk produced designs as we can with the hopes of keeping them available and on display here. Earlier in the year we brought back the Uki Candle Holders and Zen Vase by Luca Nichetto, as well as the Portable Tool Box by Hallgeir Homstvedt, and we even have some half-finished Min watering cans awaiting their carved walnut handles to be assembled.

The newest arrived here at the showroom is the Doverail Mirror and Shelf by Hallgeir Homstvedt which we have used in our own personal home since we debuted them back in 2017. The mirror and shelves use brass pins which can be unscrewed to allow for the elements to move up or down so the mirror can change its height depending on how tall the person is and the shelves can be adjusted to accommodate different sized objects or books.

The shelves are set up here in the showroom with an antique “lapis” glazed bud vase and striped bowls by Renaud Sauvé. We have the shelves and mirrors currently in stock so no waiting necessary.

From the same series is the Portable Tool Box, also designed by Hallgeir Homstvedt for us currently in stock and for sale.

We also have a fine selection of antiques that have just arrived here from Japan. As usual we’re always looking for a mixture of materials and have a particularly great group this time around. Glass, ceramic, grape vine and copper.

This glass vase is an old bottle with a calabash inspired shape. It has a beautiful blue colour and a lot of imperfections and bubbles in the glass, which is our preference.

A very quiet and dignified Imari porcelain vase without the typical decorations you usually see. This one is all about the glowing white glaze and subtle crazing lines along the body.

A wonderful large hammered copper teapot with cedar lid. I love the mixed use of material and although I think the kettle is up for being used in the kitchen we’re selling this mainly as decoration.

This is a large work of faience pottery which is a tin glazed earthenware known for its luminous white colour. This bottle vase is from France and made between 1700-1800.

Finally, I need to be a little greedy and take over this newsletter for my own little plug. I’m playing live at 915 Dupont this Sunday May 31st. It’s a really special place and feels like taking a step into a 1960s movie set in Tokyo. Juli and I came by for a coffee last week to take some photos of the space which reminded us of taking photos of cafes for our Mjolk book series.

During the day 915 Dupont is a cafe, and at night it’s kind of a jazz club / listening bar with cocktails. If you haven’t been before, then consider coming by Sunday night and saying hello. I have the full band including Matt Kelly playing pedal steel this time around and DJ Barry Spritzer is playing his curated collection of vinyl before and after the live set.
