This sentiment is thoughtfully written by Tom here:
”Growing up in Vancouver, Canada and now living in Northern Europe, open water swimming has always been part of my life.
Bathing is a cross-cultural phenomenon, which is why Mjölk became a natural collaborator. Based in Toronto, Mjölk operates as a retailer, editor, and gallery, and has helped shape a dialogue between two of the world’s most established bathing cultures: Scandinavia and Japan.
As bathing rituals extend into the evening, light becomes essential. The Oil Lamp is designed to feel at home on a dock, in a sauna, or beside an outdoor tub. It pairs a glass globe with a blackened brass body, suited to stand freely or mount on the wall and never running out of battery.
The lamp is fabricated in Toronto by Harnisch Lamps, a company founded in Denmark in 1842 that later relocated to Canada in the 1970’s. The design started with a contemporary study of their historical catalogue, including designs by Hans-Agne Jakobsson.
The project brings together Mjölk and Harnisch, completing a dialogue between Canada, Denmark, and my own practice.”
