Toru Hatta was born in Ishikawa Prefecture in 1977. He graduated from the Department of Environmental Design, Faculty of Engineering, Osaka Sangyo University, and became independent in 2003. He currently lives and works in Osaka, Japan. Pursuing the possibilities of clay, he produces mainly white, black, and Mishima-te ceramics with a focus on the natural characteristics of clay. His passion for pottery emanates from these works, which he fires in a wood-burning kiln many times until the desired effect is achieved.
