Space Copenhagen ́s Fly series signals a sculptural approach to design without sacrificing comfort. Referencing a classic Nordic aesthetic, details and techniques, seen in the slatted wood backrest, organic shapes and solid craftmanship.
Pushing the idea of lounging to its fullest, Fly is a series that allows the user to sit, lie, rest, and relax. Unlike many of the sofas and easy chairs in Scandinavian design history, Fly does not impose any particular posture onto the sitter. The cushion itself is optimised for comfort. Fly adheres to tradition in other respects; the frame is made from solid oak, treated with white pigmented oil or smoked oil. It is the type of material and treatment that ages with true grace, only becoming more beautiful with time.
Established in 2005 by Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard Rützou, Space Copenhagen is a design studio working across multiple disciplines from furniture, lighting and refined objects, to art installations, art direction and interior design for private homes, hotels and restaurants all over the world. The ambition is to forge new paths by balancing opposites: classic and modern, industrial and organic, sculptural and minimal, light and shade. The studio’s intuitive approach embodies designs that are distinctively shaped by the given circumstances, functional needs, and a fundamental interest in human behavior. It is a sense of and belief in slow aesthetic that centers quality and longevity.
Paying homage to Denmark’s long-standing design heritage, &Tradition bridges old and new by creating furniture, lighting and interior objects with timeless appeal. From reissuing design icons to creating future classics in collaboration with acclaimed international designers, the collection combines craftsmanship with creativity and shapes carefully considered pieces with purpose and meaning. Always respectfully, and made to last.
