Yoko Yamano
We’re so excited to introduce new work by Stockholm based glass artist Yoko Yamano.
We’ve been fans of hers since the opening of Mjölk and I remember coming across her work in person during our very first visits to Stockholm. We used her glassware at a restaurant called Gastrologik (unfortunately closed now) and would see her work on display in various galleries, museums and exhibitions, including one we saw while we were visiting Tokyo.
We had reached out a few years ago about hosting an exhibition for her at Mjölk. These invitations take quite a long time to plan for, so we usually bring in a small amount of works beforehand to help build a bit of familiarity between the artist and our clients. Well, time went on and due to the high demand for Yoko Yamano’s work the years slipped away and that debut order seemed to keep getting postponed.
By a stroke of luck, I saw a post on Instagram from architect Eero Koivisto who was looking for the perfect martini glass for his own personal enjoyment. The journey lead him to Yoko Yamano’s studio where he picked out his favourite. Later he posted the martini he made and I commented about how much I love her glasswork and how I would love to have them here at Mjölk. Yoko Yamano saw my comment and we were able to reconnect. Fast forward a couple months and we have a beautiful collection of glass here on display for you to purchase.
Thank you so much Eero! He is known as the great connector in the Design community.
