Just arrived: Jonas Lindholm

Welcome back, Jonas Lindholm

We are excited to receive a new delivery of Jonas Lindholm ceramics, hand made at the famous Gustavsberg pottery factory just outside of Stockholm, Sweden.

Since opening Mjölk we have mythologized Jonas Lindholm’s work. We would see it for sale in beautiful ceramic shops and galleries in Stockholm but he didn’t have a website or social media and we couldn’t seem to find any contact information. We started to romanticize this ceramic artist as someone who has turned away from technology, focusing instead on his craft while hiding away in the deep recesses of Gustavsberg Pottery. It wasn’t until our 5th Mjölk book which profiled Carina Seth Andersson—another amazing Swedish design/craftsperson—that we asked if she would facilitate an introduction to Jonas. Well, our myth building wasn’t quite correct as
Jonas Lindholm was very willing to have us represent his work, he had simply been too busy to make up a website.

We love Jonas’s work, especially his classical style teapots. We’ve said it before, it really reminds us of Stockholm with its mix of classical and romantic shapes, yet stripped away of all unnecessary ornamentation. When we like something, we will keep trying to bring it into Mjölk, even if it takes ten years, we know what we like and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

A new item at Mjölk is this black glazed carafe, which to us has a Bauhaus inspired form.

It would also make a beautiful flower vase.

We feel a little strange saying this, but we were so excited to debut this hidden toothpick holder for the first time here at Mjölk. It kind of reminds us of a traditional Japanese tea canister, but the surprise treasure inside is toothpicks (which Japan is kind of obsessed with as well). I think this is a very nice object to bring out at the end of a meal or a perfect gift for someone who has everything.

A further exploration of the kiln fired surfaces of our last few vessels by Toru Hatta. They continue to inspire and make perfect containers for fresh flowers.

A small photo but quite a lot happening here. From the small leather wrapped stones and Kai Tsujimura ceramic vases on our new coffee table to the blue corduroy sofa (both designed by Thom Fougere.) The N-S03 lounge chair by Norm Architects paired with the Chipperfield floor lamp. Above that is the “Diver” framed tile artwork by Renaud Sauvé that has narrowly escaped being purchased several times already this week. Someone is taking it home soon! Who is it going to be?  

This is our last (for now) large Ang vase in the verdigris brass finish. It’s been such a beautiful collection to have in the shop and we will be sure to bring more in soon. On the dining table is our long time favourite placemats by Mourne textiles in Ireland, hammered brass spoons by Mami Hasegawa and rope impressed Mishima dishes by Toru Hatta.

A unique ash glazed flower vase by one of Japan’s most important living ceramic artists Shiro Tsujimura. The vase is beautiful on the wall, but can also sit without issue on a flat surface. The vase comes with a signed wooden box.

The heady scent of Fritillaria Imperialis is wafting through the store. It’s a bit of a love or hate it smell, but without question the flower is majestic. We grow these in our own garden, though we are still a few weeks away until we see any blooms.

We’ve had some nice comments about including some more personal photos of our home in the newsletter, so we’re going to include some for you starting with a little braid we’ve tied to the end of our Noguchi pendant light in the living room.

One thing we need more of is book storage. It’s always a battle between objects and books here, as the objects need a little bit of space around them to be properly enjoyed.

Our dog Atla who is always waiting for us to sit with her on our sofa.
