Atsushi Ogata

Atsushi Ogata’s ceramic works prominently feature the hakeme, kohiki, and ash-glazing techniques. Ogata’s pieces are recognizable by the rich, deep colors drawn out of the clay by the traditional firewood kiln he uses.

Atsushi Ogata was born in Tokyo in 1960, and graduated from Aichi Prefectural Technical College for Advanced Ceramics in 1996, after retiring as a Chief Editor of a magazine. In 1998 he set up an independent studio in Seto, Aichi. Since 2007, he is based from Nara.
