Annam is now Vietnam, but in ancient times it was strongly influenced by China, and in the northern region of the Qinghua area, pottery making developed early on. There was a large interest in Annam ceramics during the Edo Period (1615–1868) particularly blue-and-white stoneware, which was highly valued for use in the tea ceremony.
