Antique Bizen three-eared vase from the Azuchi-Momoyama period (1568 to 1600). Bizen is one of the six ancient kilns of Japan and is famous for its high fired red earthy clay and absence of glaze. A really nice scale wood fired vessel with an ashy grey surface and warm blooms of red earth -- ideally used as a flower vase. Since the ceramic is earthenware it is recommended to use a mason jar within the vessel to hold water to ensure the clay doesn't sweat.
