Kyoko Uchida water pitcher / flower vase
A perfect example by one of Japan’s most prominent potters Kyoko Uchida.
The pitcher has a chalky white textured surface over warm toned earthenware. The body is soft and organic, yet the handle has a ribbed edge which is reminiscent of a metal handle.
Kyoko Uchida is the wife of famous Japanese potter Koichi Uchida. They live and work in Mie Prefecture near Nagoya Japan.
Kyoko’s work is inspired by ancient pottery with it’s primitive texture and earthy appearance. She uses clay that has tiny stones that reveal themselves during the firing process. Her work is entirely hand-made using coil construction technique.
Her last solo exhibition was at Gallery Yaichi in Saitama Japan in 2011. She commonly exhibits her work alongside her husband Koichi Uchida. This is an exceptional and rare one-off piece by Kyoko that can be used as both a water pitcher or flower vase.
