Brass Bookend Fundou
Bookends designed by Oji Masanori and produced by time honoured company Futagami.
The brass bookends are heavy in weight so that they can stably hold books.
The bottom is lined with a felt so that it won't damage the surface on which the bookends are placed.
Fundo bookends have the shape of Japanese old-style weights which were used for scaling silk or silver currency in the Edo period. Fundo shape is still alive as a map symbol for banks today.
The surface of the bookends is IHADA-finished, a crude casting surface. The bookend gradually changes its color over the course of years due to oxidization. The longer it is used, the richer and subtler it becomes.
