Ancient Japanese Yayoi wood fired jar with many repairs
An Ancient Japanese wood fired earthenware jar from the Yayoi period (300 BC–300 AD).
The vessel has been repaired and filled with red urushi lacquer and exhibits an incredible wabi-sabi atmosphere. The black marks caused by the original wood firing create a remarkable contrast against the natural red clay.
Quite a large vessel, and even more interesting with the endearing repair work.
