Repaired Ancient Heian Period Urn
Found near the ocean, this Heian Period vessel’s texture attests to a life spent submerged.
Remnants of its original dark glaze still remain along the inside of its opening, as well as two large areas on its exterior. Although now lost, what remains is one of the most interesting pottery surfaces we have seen.
Having been broken many years past, the repair was completed with a porous and thick material which has added an organic and expressive surface to the present item.
