A very rare lacquered box from the Korean Yi-Dynasty (1392 - 1897)

This box has an exceptional form, long and slender with beautiful iron handles and a delicately carved pattern enhanced by soft gilt work.

The exterior is coated in black lacquer and the interior has a rich red lacquer colour which is a beautiful surprise. There is a large square brass lock on the front with a missing key. The top shuts on its own but since there is no hinge on the lid the box cannot stay open on its own.

Finding such find boxes from the Yi-Dynasty is very rare, especially such a beautiful one such as this.
