Japanese Karatsu Tea Canister

A pear-shaped tea canister from early Edo period Japan. The glaze has patinated over time, giving way to the richly textured clay beneath. The lid is carved from bone, beautifully detailed, and gold-leafed on the inside. Comes in original wood box.
